01 / IMPORTANT AFTER DOWNLOADING

Install the extension in Chrome:
turn on Developer mode

This download requires manual installation. Follow these four steps: turning on Developer mode makes the Load unpacked button appear.

Download and extract the ZIP

Save the ZIP and extract it to a permanent folder. You’ll find manifest.json inside.

Turn on Developer mode

Open chrome://extensions/ and turn on the Developer mode switch in the top-right corner. This step is required to install this download.

Load the unpacked extension

Choose Load unpacked and select the extracted folder containing manifest.json. Keep this folder on your computer.

Reload ChatGPT and try the gestures

Refresh any ChatGPT tabs you already have open. Try Ctrl+click or right-click on ChatGPT or New chat.

How to open ChatGPT
in a new tab

Keep your train of thought. Start another conversation whenever you need to, with the gestures you already know.

Ctrl+click

Ctrl+click to start a fresh chat

Ctrl+left-click starts a fresh chat in a background tab. On Mac, use ⌘+click.

Right-click

Right-click: open link in new tab

Right-click ChatGPT or New chat and choose “Open link in new tab”.

Middle-click

Middle-click to open ChatGPT

Press the mouse wheel over the control and keep working in your current conversation.

Want to jump straight to the new chat? Add Shift to Ctrl+click (or ⌘+click on Mac) to open and activate the new tab.

Supported ChatGPT navigation controls

Works on the general ChatGPT and New chat navigation controls in English and Spanish. The destination is chatgpt.com/: it doesn’t duplicate your conversation or modify history, project or custom GPT links.

It also adds “Open ChatGPT in a new tab (fresh chat)” to the right-click menu anywhere on chatgpt.com.

The extension recognizes navigation controls locally in your browser. It doesn’t store or send chat content to the developer or another service.

Which permissions does the extension need?

Access to the chatgpt.com interface to recognize navigation controls, plus the contextMenus permission. It temporarily processes navigation labels, the ChatGPT URL and source tab identifiers. It doesn’t request access to your browser history or cookies.

Does it start a fresh chat or duplicate my current one?

It opens a fresh chat at https://chatgpt.com/, without the current conversation’s identifier, URL parameters or text. Your original tab stays open.

Does normal left-click still work?

A normal left-click keeps the original control’s behavior. The extension restores gestures for opening an additional tab.

Do I need to pay or create an account?

The extension is free to download and has no account system. Access to ChatGPT is subject to that service’s own requirements.

Does it work on mobile or other websites?

This release is intended for desktop Google Chrome. Its code runs only on https://chatgpt.com/*. It recognizes English and Spanish navigation controls.

What if ChatGPT changes its interface again?

Control detection may need an update. The extension also provides its own right-click menu item on chatgpt.com, independent of navigation controls. You can report issues by email.

Why do I need Developer mode?

This release is distributed directly from this website, without a Chrome Web Store listing. Chrome allows unpacked extension folders to be loaded through Developer mode. Keep the extracted folder and remember that updates are manual.
